6 Day Omo Valley Tribes Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Jinka

• Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka, gateway to the Omo Valley.

• Explore Jinka on a city walk, experiencing both traditional and modern elements of the town.

Overnight: Lodge in Jinka

 

Day 2: Mursi Village and Turmi

• Drive to Mursi Village (60 km), famous for its lip plates and body paintings.

• Continue to Turmi, known for the Hamer people and its bustling market.

• Visit Keyafer village and possibly Alduba or Dimeka for their vibrant markets.

Day 3: Nyangatom & Karo Tribes

• Visit the Nyangatom tribe in southern Omo National Park, known for cattle herding and beekeeping.

• Explore the Karo tribe along the Omo River, renowned for their stunning body paintings.

Day 4: Hamer Tribe and Bull Jumping

• Visit Turmi’s market and experience the Hamer people’s traditional attire.

• Attend the Bull Jumping ceremony, a rite of passage for young men.

• Hike to a Hamer village, interact with locals, and learn about their agricultural practices.

Overnight: Camping at a family-hosted place near Turmi

 

Day 5: Dassanech, Konso, and Arbaminch

• Drive to the Dassanech tribe near Omorate, exploring their semi-nomadic lifestyle.

• Continue to Konso village to see their dry-stone walled structures and terracing practices.

• Head towards Arbaminch, known for its beautiful landscapes and wildlife.

Overnight: Hotel in Arbaminch

 

Day 6: Dorze Village and Return

• Visit Dorze village, famous for its weaving skills and beehive-shaped huts.

• Explore the culinary traditions of the Dorze, including their staple food, kocho.

• Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa.
